Introduction
Jason Gardner was born and raised in Virginia. He moved to Oregon in 2002 after falling in love with the vast wilderness areas of the Pacific Northwest. An experienced whitewater kayaker, he has explored many of Oregon and Washington’s most difficult rivers. Jason is also an avid trail runner, competing in recreational trail races. He now spends most of his free time chasing after his two young children.
Practice & Experience
- Jason began practicing law in Portland in 2003, working as a prosecutor for the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. He tried many felony and misdemeanor cases to verdict, including drug, property, and violent crimes. He worked closely with Portland Police officers in case investigations, which included drafting and approving search warrants and accompanying police officers on search and seizure missions. Jason tried numerous cases in which excessive police force was raised as a defense and received a commendation from the Portland Chief of Police for his trial work.
- Jason subsequently worked with another local defense firm where he specialized in the defense of municipal actions, including 42 USC 1983 cases. In particular, he defended several federal class action lawsuits where the constitutionality of detention center strip search policies was raised. He also defended excessive force and wrongful arrest claims.
- Jason joined Bodyfelt Mount LLP as an associate in 2009. His practice focuses on the defense of products and general liability, construction defect, professional liability and insurance coverage.
